The Belgian Grand Prix at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is one of the most eagerly awaited races of the Formula One season. The track at Spa is spectacular, a scenic raceway winding through the heart of the Ardennes Forest.
Spa is the longest track in Formula One, one of the fastest and, unlike many modern racetracks, offers many opportunities to overtake. Its greatest feature though is Eau Rouge, a favourite Formula One corner - a long right-hander that sweeps uphill immediately after a downhill left. The drivers take Eau Rouge at full throttle and Jean Alesi once said, half seriously, that he takes it with his eyes shut, praying the road is in the same place as it was the lap before.
Formula One is the king of motor sports. Since its inauguration in 1950, it has attracted the very best talents in the world of motor racing. As a spectacle it is unsurpassed. The sheer speed of the cars is hard to comprehend, and the noise from the track is almost deafening.
